This new app, introduced to me by my hubby, is really cool. SoundGeocko is a text-to-audio transcribing service that creates mp3 recordings of articles from websites for free!
Visit the SoundGecko website paste the URL of a website or article that you would like to listen to.
Add the email address where you would like to receive the MP3 file of your audio and SoundGecko will send the file to your email address.
You can also use their iPhone App, which I’ve installed from the iTunes store:
The app is free and simple to use.
Any articles that you requested SoundGecko to convert and send to your email (using the same email for your SoundGecko account) will appear in the app.
You can also, alternatively, choose to sync your audio files with your Dropbox or Google Drive accounts.
I am really impressed with the sound quality. While it’s not as good as some of the natural reader apps I’ve heard in the past, it’s free, and is really quite passable. You can even speed up or slow down the voice as well as skip ahead using the fast forward control or up and back 30 seconds. I definitely will be using this during my commute to school this fall for articles!
